At Shepherds College we employ a teaching/learning strategy called R.E.A.L. R.E.A.L. is an acronym which stands for Relational, Experiential, Applicable, Learner-Based. Every lesson we teach should incorporate each of these elements.
Relational – students work hard for someone they know cares. Encouraging relationships in the classroom breeds deeper discussion and learning through teacher/student and student/student interactions.
Experiential – We remember what we experience so it’s no wonder that experiencing class content is essential to remembering and applying.
Applicable – Why do we teach what we teach? Students need to know why they are putting forth effort. How will your teaching influence their lives and their futures?
Learner-Based – While there can be up to seven different learning styles, most people learn best in one or two ways. Incorporating these learning styles into each lesson ensures that you are reaching every student.
