As a children’s ministry director, I want to be equipped to love and serve all of the families in our church, including those families who have children with special needs. One of the resources that I have found helpful is the website Special Needs Parenting.
Special Needs Parenting recently published an article by my friend, Barb Dittrich, of Snappin’ Ministries, still another resource that has been a blessing to families in our ministry. In her article, Barb shares the quote above - “Alone We Are Rare. Together We Are Strong.” – the motto of the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). NORD is the official US Sponsor of World Rare Disease Day, observed the last day of February every year. On February 29th, Snappin’ Ministries is going to launch an online group for caregivers of kids with a rare diagnosis. This will afford parents, grandparents, and guardians the chance to privately connect with others who understand this unique cluster of challenges.
Barb has graciously given us permission to share her article, Not As Rare As You Think You Are, with all of you. I pray that if you are an educator or in ministry, that you will not only learn something that will help you and your ministry, but that you will also share this information with families and individuals who need to know that they are not alone. Together we are strong.
